We’ll talk about all this and much more on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, when Raya Divers and Arctic Divers meet at Blue Peter in Lauttasaari for a relaxed evening about diving.

The evening is for everyone – whether you have just started diving, have been diving for years, or have sometimes thought about taking your diving to the next level.

From Recreational Diver to Dive Professional

For many people, diving starts with a Discover Scuba Diving experience on holiday or a PADI Open Water Diver course. After that, the next steps can be PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver and finally the first professional level – PADI Divemaster.

During the Divemaster course, you start moving from recreational diving towards professional diving. The training includes improving your diving skills, dive planning, safety, working with groups, dive theory and practical training with an instructor.

After becoming a PADI Divemaster, you can continue your training and become a PADI Instructor. This can open the door to working in diving in Thailand and many other places around the world.

At Raya Divers, Divemaster training is very practical. Training in a real dive centre in Thailand gives you a good idea of what the everyday life of a dive professional is actually like. You get to learn about dive trips, boats, equipment, customers and the daily routines of a busy dive centre.

The Divemaster course is also a great choice if you simply want to become a better and more confident diver, even if you are not planning to work in diving. The course gives you more knowledge, better practical skills and a much deeper understanding of diving.

Two Ways to Become a Divemaster with Raya Divers

At Raya Divers, there are two ways to complete your PADI Divemaster training, depending on how much time you have and how much practical experience you want to get during the training.

The first option is our Divemaster Training Program in Thailand. You need to apply separately for this program. Selected candidates join a longer training period where they can follow the daily life of a dive centre and learn from experienced dive professionals and instructors.

The program includes plenty of practical training, such as improving diving skills, dive planning, safety, equipment, boat operations and the practical exercises and theory included in the PADI Divemaster course.

The goal is not only to become a PADI Divemaster, but also to understand what working in the diving industry is really like and to prepare for possible work as a dive professional in the future.

Applicants should already have good basic diving experience and at least a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification or equivalent. We check each applicant’s diving background and experience as part of the selection process. Before you are accepted into the program and start the Divemaster course, we also make sure that you meet the official PADI Divemaster requirements.

Intensive PADI Divemaster Course in Phuket

The second option is our intensive PADI Divemaster course in Phuket, which we organise twice a year.

The course takes two weeks and is designed for divers who already have enough diving experience and meet the requirements for starting the course. Because the training is intensive, the required certification level, diving experience and other PADI requirements need to be completed before the Divemaster course starts.

If needed, you can arrive in Phuket earlier to complete any missing courses or logged dives before the two-week Divemaster course begins.

What Is It Like to Work as a Dive Professional in Thailand?

Warm weather, tropical seas and diving almost every day sounds pretty good – and many days it really is.

But working as a dive professional is about much more than just diving. The job includes looking after customers, planning dives, preparing equipment, working on boats, taking care of safety and sometimes waking up very early in the morning.

On the other hand, you get to spend your working days at some amazing dive sites, work with people from around the world and have the sea as your workplace.

At Blue Peter, we’ll talk about what it is really like to go from recreational diver to dive professional and what you should know if working as a PADI Instructor in Thailand sounds interesting.

Diving in Thailand – What’s Coming Up Next Season?

Of course, the evening is not only about professional diving. We’ll also talk about diving holidays in Thailand.

Thailand has been a popular diving destination for Finnish divers for many years. From Phuket and Khao Lak, you can join anything from a single day trip to a longer liveaboard and visit some of the best-known dive sites in the Andaman Sea.

Petteri and Terhi from Raya Divers will be there to share the latest news about the coming Thailand diving season, diving in Phuket and Khao Lak and our liveaboard trips.

If you are planning a diving holiday in Thailand, this is also a good chance to ask questions about dive sites, trips, liveaboards and which options would be best for your experience level.

Arctic Divers – Diving and Professional Training in Finland

Diving doesn’t have to stop when your holiday ends. Arctic Divers will tell us more about diving in Finland and how you can continue developing your diving skills at home.

Diving and training in Finland also gives you a great base for future diving trips and for moving towards professional diving if that interests you.

Petri “Wode” Stenberg is one of Finland’s most experienced PADI Course Directors and has been a Course Director since 1994. Wode trains new PADI Instructor candidates through the Instructor Development Course (IDC) and helps them on their way to becoming PADI Instructors.

Instructor courses are organised a few times each year. One big advantage for Finnish divers is that you can complete your instructor training in Finland and in Finnish with a very experienced PADI Course Director.
